EdgeCast was founded in 2006 and operates out of Santa Monica, CA in the US. EdgeCast claims to be constantly rated amongst the fastest CDNs and participates in the Global Internet Speedup initiative. EdgeCast has 200+ employees and more than 4,000 customers including Wordpress.com, Tumblr, Twitter and Pinterest. EdgeCast was acquired by Verizon in 2014.
EdgeCast identified a smaller number of strategic global locations near primary Internet Exchange Points, and built supercharged points of presence, called SuperPOPs. These SuperPOPs have massive amounts of computing and caching power and are directly connected to all the major backbone networks.
