EdgeCast was founded in 2006 and operates out of Santa Monica, CA in the US. EdgeCast claims to be constantly rated amongst the fastest CDNs and participates in the Global Internet Speedup initiative. EdgeCast has 200+ employees and more than 4,000 customers including Wordpress.com, Tumblr, Imgur and Pinterest.

Network Map

EdgeCast identified a smaller number of strategic global locations near primary Internet Exchange Points, and built supercharged points of presence, called SuperPOPs. These SuperPOPs have massive amounts of computing and caching power and are directly connected to all the major backbone networks.

EdgeCast is a high-end CDN and has all the basic features, and more, like multiple origins and CNAMEs and an HTTP Rules Engine that gives you highly granular control over how, when - and even if - your content is served. EdgeCast provides robust security features prevent hotlinking, piracy, and other forms of content theft.

Gzip	Resend from origin, or compress on edgeBy default, all Gzip compression is off, even if the origin sends a file compressed. EdgeCast does gzipping on the edge servers and this is easy to turn on in the online control panel. You can define the MIME types for files that should be compressed yourself which is great. Files larger than 1MB will never be served with compression, but that should not be a problem. If you want EdgeCast to honor the origin server compression on a cache miss request, you have to ask your EdgeCast account manager explicitly this on.

Can override origin server headers	EdgeCast offers 3 modes for handling files with query string parameters (for example all.css?v=1). This can come in quite handy in some cases.
Set caching headers for pushed files
Custom CNAMEs	You can have multiple origins and CNAMEs. It's easy to setup in the online control panel. EdgeCast gives the IP addresses (ranges) of all their POPs, so you can whitelist the access to your origin if you need to.

Control Panel & statistics	EdgeCast provides an easy-to-use, intuitive online panel. It includes lots of reports, like Traffic Summary, Data Transferred, Cache Hit Ratio and CDN Storage. You can add Users and grant each user access to specific sections in the control panel.

The price per GB is $0.15 and you get 1GB free storage if you do Origin-Pull.
